Sri Lanka Law College, formerly known as Ceylon Law College, is a law college, and the only legal institution where one can enroll as an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka.

The Moot Society of Sri Lanka Law College is to organize the sixth consecutive edition of the H.V. Perera QC Memorial International Moot Competition this year.

About the Moot Society

The Moot Society of Sri Lanka Law College provides a platform for all students at Law College to practice legal research, oratory, and presentation skills in a court setting since its inception in 1986. The Moot Society is dedicated to the upliftment of the students’ legal and advocacy skills and plays a pivotal role in placing the name of Sri Lanka Law College in the global mooting arena. 

About the Competition

Organized by the Moot Society of Sri Lanka Law College, the H.V. Perera QC Memorial Moot Competition (also known as The Victor’s Moot)  is the first International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition in Sri Lanka. This competition has been held annually following its inception in 2018 in commemoration of Dr. Herbert Victor Perera QC, a distinguished personality in the field of law in Sri Lanka.

Eligibility

Every law school is eligible, and the competition is open to teams composed of students:

  • Enrolled in either, an Undergraduate Programme in law or equivalent professional qualification at a University or other institution

And

  • Who have not received their Undergraduate qualification or any other professional qualification in the legal field (Attorney at law, Barristers, solicitors, etc.)

Team Composition

  • There shall only be one team representing their respective university and each team shall consist of a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 4 members.

  • The registration fee per Sri Lankan team shall be LKR 10,000.
  • The registration fee for foreign teams shall be USD 120.

  • Oral Rounds: September 2 & 3, 2023

Awards & Prizes

  • An award for the Champions and an award for the Runner-Up Team.
  • An award for the Best Memorial and an award for the Runner-Up Memorial.
  • An award for the Best Speaker, an award for the Runner-Up Best Speaker. The Best
  • Speaker and Runner-Up Speaker Awards will be determined by the highest aggregate score of all Preliminary rounds that the contestant has argued divided by the number of rounds participated.
  • All participants will receive Certificates of Participation.
